The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, held in the historic city of Tallinn, Estonia is one of the largest and most prestigious film events in Eastern Europe. Running November 26 to December 6, the Festival will screen over 300 films from the region and internationally.

PÖFF - The winners of the awards of 11th Animated Film Festival ANIMATED DREAMS

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The winners of ANIMATED DREAMS were announced on Saturday, 21 November at the award ceremony in Sõprus Cinema.

The Animated Dreams, for the first time ever, gave out monetary prizes this year. The winner of the Grand Prix, in addition to the Wooden Wolf made by Estonian puppet masters, received 1000 euros sponsored by studio A Film Estonia. The students of Estonian Academy of Arts' animation department gave out their award for the first time as well -

The jury members Regina Pessoa (Portugal), Tatia Rosenthal (Israel/USA) and Hardi Volmer (Estonia) decided to hand out the festival awards as follows:

GRAND PRIX - "Wooden Wolf" and 1000 euros sponsored by A Film Estonia

LUCIA Chile 2007, 3'55'' DIR: CRISTÓBAL LEÓN, NILES ATALLAH, JOAQUIN COCIA
Technique: animated objects, charcoal
For its fresh, outstanding and innovative approach to the medium, extending the boundaries of animation in a truly original way.

Jury's Special Mentions I

FARD France 2009, 12'55'' DIR: DAVID ALAPONT, LUIS BRICENO

Technique: 2D/3D computer animation, pencil on paper, rotoscope;
For the perfect execution of a brilliant story which subverts and enhances the classical comic style.

PLEASE SAY SOMETHING Germany 2009, 10' DIR: DAVID O'REILLY
Technique: 3D
For a multi layered, wholly original, cleverly directed portrait of the complicated co-dependence of yearning and abuse.

 

Jury's Special Mention III

SPARNI UN AIRI Latvia 2009, 6' DIR: VLADIMIR LE
Technique: watercolour on paper, 2D
For its simple and elegant design and surreal humour, poetically expressing memories from the past.

 

Best Design

LASKA Poland 2008, 5' DIR: MICHAŁ SOCHA
Technique: 2D, 3D
For a strange but intimately intriguing, elegantly designed moving universe

 

Best Story

EL EMPLEO Argentina 2008, 6'19'' DIR: SANTIAGO GRASSO
Technique: drawn, 2D
With its charming, poignant humour, and accurate dramatic details, El Empleo leaves no spectator indifferent.

ANOBA nomination for the best Estonian animation film

KROKODILL 2009, 16'38'' DIR: KASPAR JANCIS
For its unique, humorous and richly metaphorical portrayal of the complications falling and holding to love.

Award for the best film by Estonian Art Academy's animation students -

DIR: ROBIN NOORDA, BETHANY DE FOREST
For its outstanding visuals, excellent set-design and thrilling musical score.
